Green Navigation, Smart Water Transport: Successful Application of Solar Navigation Lights in Bridge Culvert Projects.

With increasingly busy inland waterway and cross-sea traffic, navigation safety under bridges has become paramount.

Recently, our company completed a bridge solar-powered navigation warning light installation project. Utilizing advanced solar-powered warning technology, this project provides clear navigational guidance for vessels, effectively reducing collision risks and comprehensively ensuring the safety of both the bridge and vessels.

Solution: YFFY-LS-E Solar Navigation Lights

This project selected a 2-4NM solar marine light as the core navigational aid. This LED light is specifically designed for navigation and warning in oceans, lakes, and rivers, perfectly suited to the harsh environment of bridges and culverts.

Product Advantages

1. Meets International Standards, Precise Guidance

    • The solar-powered warning light strictly adheres to IALA standards, providing two key navigational colors: red and green.
    • In bridge and culvert applications, the constant light pattern of red and green clearly defines the navigable channel for vessels, acting like a maritime “traffic light,” allowing crew members to identify channel boundaries from a distance.

    2. Visibility & Endurance

    • 2-4 nautical miles (NM), ensuring ships can detect warning signals from a distance.
      • Built-in 3.2V 4AH lithium iron phosphate battery, combined with a monocrystalline silicon solar panel with a photoelectric conversion efficiency of 25%, allows for over 20 days of continuous operation (12 hours per day) even in cloudy or rainy weather, completely eliminating the risk of power outages.
      • High-efficiency LED chips with a lifespan exceeding 100,000 hours significantly reduce the frequency of maintenance.

      3. Extreme Environmental Adaptability

      • Bridge and culvert environments face challenges such as high humidity, strong corrosion, and harsh weather.
      • YFFY’s solar marine navigation lights has IP68 waterproof and dustproof capabilities. The lampshade is made of corrosion-resistant and UV-resistant PC material, and the base is made of marine-grade special plastic.
        • Operating temperature range covers -40℃ to 70℃, and it can withstand winds of up to 80m/s, ensuring stable operation in extreme weather conditions.

        4. Intelligent Control & Flexible Modes

        • The solar LED navigation light has a built-in light control sensor, enabling fully automatic operation with “daytime off, nighttime on”.
          • Supports switching between constant light and flashing modes, and can be customized with 350 flashing codes to meet the warning needs of complex waterways.

Significant Benefits of Solar Warning Lights for Bridge Culvert Projects:

          1. Improved Navigation Safety and Reduced Accident Risk:

          • Traditional passive reflective markings have limited effectiveness at night or in low visibility conditions (such as fog or heavy rain).
            • Solar navigation lights actively emit light, significantly improving visibility on the water surface at night and in adverse weather conditions, helping crew members accurately identify the location of bridge piers and navigation channel boundaries, greatly reducing the probability of collisions.

            2. Green & Environmentally Friendly, Zero-Energy Operation:

            • Utilizing solar energy as the sole energy source, there is no need to lay cables or connect to mains power, avoiding the risks and high costs of underwater construction and achieving zero carbon emissions.
            • The independent power supply mode is particularly suitable for bridge projects in remote waters or where power access is difficult.

            3. Reduced Total Life Cycle Costs:

            • Solar marine navigation lights use long-life LED light sources and durable lithium iron phosphate batteries, featuring maintenance-free or low-maintenance characteristics (no need for frequent battery or bulb replacements), significantly saving on long-term manpower and maintenance costs.

            4. Easy Installation and Flexible Deployment

              • For example, the YFFY-LS-E solar lights weighs only 1.2kg, has a compact structure, and supports rapid installation and disassembly. Whether pre-installed on new bridges or upgraded from existing ones, deployment can be completed quickly without affecting normal navigation.

              Installation and Usage Requirements

To ensure the solar navigation lights perform optimally in bridge and culvert projects, installation must adhere to the following specifications:

              • Solar marine lanterns should be installed on the water-facing side of the bridge pier or at key locations along the edge of the channel, ensuring the light is not obstructed by the bridge structure and can be clearly observed by passing vessels from 2-4 nautical miles away.
              • Using the M6 mounting holes on the bottom, use stainless steel bolts to securely lock the light fixture to the bridge pier or dedicated bracket, preventing loosening due to water flow or waves.
              • Solar marine lights have a 360° horizontal output. In specific channel guidance applications, the vertical divergence angle can be adjusted as needed (>10°) to ensure the beam covers the optimal observation area.
              • It is recommended to conduct a visual inspection every six months, cleaning dust, bird droppings, or aquatic organisms from the solar panel surface to ensure photoelectric conversion efficiency.

The successful delivery of this bridge solar-powered navigation light project marks another successful step in our company’s practice in the field of smart navigation aids.

By introducing solar navigation lights, we not only illuminate the safe “path home” for ships, but also build an invisible “protective wall” for the bridge.

In the future, YFFY will continue to dedicate itself to promoting green and intelligent navigation aid solutions, safeguarding global maritime traffic safety.
