Medium Intensity Obstacle Lights

Medium Intensity Obstacle Lights – What Light Intensity?

Medium intensity obstacle lights are mainly used to mark obstacles with a height between 45 meters and 150 meters. They can be used in places where warnings are required, such as towers, chimneys, high-rise buildings, large bridges, large port machinery, large construction machinery, wind turbines, etc.

Medium Intensity Obstacle Lights – What Light Intensity?

Medium intensity obstacle lights are aviation warning lights mainly used to mark obstacles with a height between 45 meters and 150 meters.

It’s suitable for various land and sea applications and needs to meet the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Therefore, it is important to choose a medium-intensity lamp that meets the standards, especially the choice of light intensity.

Light Intensity of Medium Intensity Obstacle Lights

The light intensity of medium-intensity aviation obstacle warning lights varies according to the model, and is mainly divided into two categories: Medium-intensity Type-A aviation obstruction lights & Medium-intensity Type-B aviation obstruction lights:

1. Medium-intensity Type-A obstacle light:

The effective light intensity range is 2000cd to 20000cd (some 2000cd±25% to 20000cd±25%), which is a white flashing light.

This type of lamp is usually used in buildings and facilities above 105 meters, or in environments with strong background light, and is sometimes used in conjunction with high-intensity Type-B lamps for dimming.

2. Medium-intensity Type-B obstacle light:

The effective light intensity is 2000cd±25%, which is a red flashing light. It’s mainly used for buildings and facilities below 105m, and can also be used in combination with medium-intensity Type-A obstruction lights or high-intensity Type-A obstruction lights.

Application of Aviation Obstruction Lights

Medium-intensity obstacle lights are mainly used in the following aspects:

1. Guide pilots to identify obstacles:

By emitting high-brightness and highly visible red or white light, aviation obstruction light can attract the pilot’s attention and make him pay attention to obstacles in the flight path, thereby ensuring flight safety.

2. Alert surrounding pedestrians and ground vehicles:

Since medium-intensity aviation obstruction warning lights are usually installed at high altitudes, their beams cover a wide range, providing visual warnings for surrounding pedestrians and ground vehicles, allowing them to avoid high-risk areas and reduce accidents.

3. Assist airports & aviation dispatch:

LED obstruction lights and solar obstruction lights are not only installed on high-rise building, but are also often used in aircraft airports, take-off and landing lanes, taxiways, and other areas. By observing the status and color of the light, aviation dispatchers can understand the current flight status for more accurate flight dispatch and management.

4. Ensure night flight safety:

At night or in conditions of poor visibility, pilots face higher risks. The bright beams emitted by medium-intensity LED aviation obstruction lights can provide important visual references in the dark, helping pilots better judge altitude and direction, and reducing the occurrence of night flight accidents.

In addition, medium intensity obstacle lights are also widely used in towers (electricity, communications, high-voltage power towers, etc.), chimneys (thermal power plants, coking plants, chemical plants, etc.), high-rise buildings, large bridges, large port machinery, large construction machinery, wind turbines and other occasions where warnings are required.

In summary, medium intensity obstacle lights, with their specific light intensity and application scenarios, play an important role in ensuring flight safety, providing visual warnings, and assisting airport and aviation dispatch.
