Boat side lights usually refer to red and green LED navigation light, which are lighting equipment used on ships to provide direction guidance and position at night or other low visibility conditions to help avoid collisions.
Sidelights are generally installed at the front of the ship and are an important part of the ship’s navigation light system.
Boat navigation lights usually include various types such as front and rear mast lights, sidelights, etc. to provide lighting at different angles.
Boat Side Lights LED Navigation Light Standards
The standards for boat navigation light mainly include the following aspects:
- Ship bow & stern identification lights:
For example, the bow of the first ship in the pusher fleet should display a white bow light, and the light should not be visible behind the transom. When the stern of the pushed ship exceeds the bow of the tugboat, a white tail light should also be displayed. The last row of ships in the tugboat fleet should display white tail lights.
- Lighting requirements for beacon boats & dangerous goods ships:
When beacon boats are underway, they should display two lights, sidelights, sternlights and green all-round lights at night;
Boats carrying explosive, flammable, highly toxic and radioactive dangerous goods have specific lighting display requirements during mooring, loading and unloading and navigation.
- Types of LED navigation lights:
Including mast lights, sidelights, sternlights, towing lights, all-round lights, flashing lights defined in the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions (COLREG), and all-round yellow flashing lights specifically for hovercraft.
According to relevant regulations, the sidelights are placed on the left and right sides of the highest deck of the ship, with red lights on the port side and green lights on the starboard side, each displaying uninterrupted lights within a horizontal arc of 112.5 degrees.
The marine boat side lights should display the lights from the front of the ship to 22.5 degrees behind the beam of each side, respectively, to ensure that they are clearly visible from the front of the ship to each side.
